Endowed by Our Creator by Keith W. Johnson


"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." The title of this book comes from this statement in the U. S. Declaration of Independence.

Mr. Johnson reminds us that our rights are a gift from God. How refreshing in today's world, where some people are offended when other people pray in public. Christians don't know how to react to these attacks on their religion. The author suggests that, because God gave us those rights, God also expects us to preserve them, and that Christians must be more involved in politics to accomplish that.

Many Christians shy way from political activity, perhaps because they are afraid of the "dirty politics" that abounds in the USA these days. However, Johnson says Christians must get involved. And they must not be fooled by the politically correct crowd who misinterpret the Constitution and use it to bully others.

Johnson educates the reader about nullification, the process by which the states can nullify federal laws which are unconstitutional. With the current runaway federal government, why aren't we hearing about this in every state in the Union?

He covers just about every issue on the current political scene----from morality and government to foreign policy. I was particularly interested in his discussion of "The Religious Left" and "The Religious Right." It's good to have on hand as a summary of the Christian view of the current political environment.

The book is 348 pages, and I think the author could have condensed the material he offered. I think he should have ended each chapter with a numbered list on what the reader could do about the issues just discussed. Many people will appreciate his presentation of the issues even if they already agree with his stances. They want to know what they can do personally to preserve our freedoms. I think some people need more specific suggestions than the author gave.
