This is the second book in The Cold Case Files series, set in Memphis,
TN. Dangerous Waters was the first, and I hope there will be several
more installments.
Grace Kincaid is a news anchor who gave up a
network job to return to Memphis after he father was severely injured in
a drive-by shooting. The action is intense from the very beginning. The
father of Grace's high school boyfriend intends to jump from the
Mississippi River bridge, but he wants to talk to Grace first. Alex
Crowne, Memphis cold case division officer, is on the scene, too. Alex
and Grace went to high school with this man's son, who also jumped from
the bridge. He does jump, and he tries to take Grace with him, but Alex
manages to save her.
Alex's father used to work for Grace's
father, a wealthy banker. Grace and Alex played together as children and
went to high school together. They also dated for a while before she
left town for her job. The relationships in the story are complicated.
There's a mystery involving a gang that was suspected of trading in
drugs at their high school. Grace announces on the air that she's going
to find out what really happened and why her boyfriend jumped from the
bridge all those years ago. Alex is in on it because of his job as cold
case detective.
The investigation makes Grace a target of someone
who does not want the old case to be solved. The story involves several
attempts on Grace's life, healing of the relationship between Grace's
family and Alex. And I'll let you wonder whether Grace and Alex get
together in the end. I did not figure out who the bad guy was this time.
Every time I thought I had it, my guy was killed off!
Let's just say it's a great read. I can't wait to see the next installment.
