Subtitle: Understanding the Big Picture Book-by-Book; authors, Dr. William H. Marty and Dr. Boyd Seevers.
Have you wished for an brief overview of the Bible in an easy-to-read format? Wish no more. Drs. Marty and Seevers have delivered just that. In The Quick-Start Guide, each book of the Bible is summarized in a three-part format: setting, summary, and significance. The authors are both Bible professors at respected universities, but they keep it simple both in structure and language.
I think this book would be excellent for those new to Bible study, but I think it's also useful for life-long readers like myself. Especially in the Old Testament, where it's hard sometimes to follow the flow of the story, the setting and summary sections help me make sense of it all. Reading it straight through will certainly help one comprehend the "grand sweep" of the Bible. I found myself turning to it for greater understanding as I read my lessons from the books of Ezra and Nehemiah.
The promotional material on the back of the book states that you will
"come away with a better understanding of what the Bible is all about
and why it is the most important book you'll ever read." It was
certainly true for me.
